"Alluvial Fans 2003" was a specialized meeting held at Sorbas, Spain, for scientists interested in all aspects of alluvial fans.  The nature of the meeting - small, interdisciplinary, and focused - was popular.  (See Gary Nichols' reminiscence of the Sorbas 2003 meeting.)  Two of the four days were spent in the field on guided trips.

Previously, an SEPM International Research Conference on alluvial fans was held at Death Valley, California, in 1995.

1.  The meeting brought together people with a wide range of backgrounds, all interested in alluvial fans (including modern fans, ancient fans, applied studies of fans [engineering, forestry, hydrology, etc.]).

2.  A scenic postglacial landscape (the Rocky Mountains) in a humid, temperate environment with many active, forested, postglacial fans to visit.

A special issue of Geomorphology has been published, with articles from authors who presented at Alluvial Fans 2007.  Click here for details.

A volume of papers from Alluvial Fans 2003 is also available.  Click here for information.
