Trade Language A j argon which develops when people from two or more language communities meet regularly to carry on commerce. Typically all the languages contribute lexical items while a modified form of the grammar of the language spoken by those where the trade takes place supplies the structural basis for the language. Swahili in Africa and Pidgin in the South Pacific are examples which include a large number of speakers and cover large territories.
