Institution A set of actions related to a particular social activity. For instance, the institution of marriage would refer to the actions of marriage partners to each other and to their respective kinspeople in maintaining the relationship. The concept is used by functionalists to allow for comparisons among a group of societies and to discuss the interrelatedness of human action in maintaining harmonious communities.
Jargon A dialect based on the specialized experience of those employing the jargon. Occupational jargons are relatively common, but they may also reflect life-style. For instance, "tramps" employ a jargon when communicating among themselves.
