URBAN SOCIOLOGY A309,
SPRING 2002 UAA
Answer the following question, all parts of the question. Part
a) of each question demonstrates your understanding of the theories, while part
b) demonstrates an application of your understanding of the theories.
- Compare and contrast two contemporary urban sociological
theorists, one each from the Urban (Human) Ecology and New urban sociology
(Political Economy) perspectives. Initially explain the two perspectives
generally, then describe the theorist’s particular focus within the
perspective.
- Apply each theory to a social issue (problem) of your
choosing, an issue that is found in modern US cities. Identify differences
and similarities in interpretation of the issue. Explain weaknesses and
strengths in each theorist’s interpretation.
- Which theorist do you feel best explains this social issue.
