STATEMENT OF SCHOLARLY 

ACTIVITIES AND INTERESTS

    1)      Activist Academic:  Book proposal accepted by Fernwood Publishers.  Part autobiographical, part critique of post-secondary education and the role of professor in society as activist both in the classroom and outside in the community. 

     

    2)      Peace and Conflict Studies:  Introducing Nonviolence to communities as an alternative to current militarization of societies and structural violence in communities due to globalization, through training, public speaking and writing material for mainstream and alternative media publications. 

     

    3)      Youth Criminal Justice:  Exploring ecological/agricultural work for youth at risk and as a viable sentencing and/or probation option for juveniles in the criminal justice system.  Researching current programs in this area in order to develop a program for introduction in the future on the farm where I reside. 

     

    4)      Aboriginal Peoples:  Member of the Aboriginal Rights Coalition since May 2004;  currently undertaking research on conflicts between Aboriginal Peoples and their ancient burial grounds and private land owners who seek to develop where the burial grounds are found, with publication of media articles pending. 

     

    5)      International Partnerships: International Committee board member of the newly established Peace Research Centre and Peace Studies Program in the Facultad de Filosofia y Humanidades at the Universidad Nacional de Cordoba in Argentina. 

     

    6)      Interactive exercises for the classroom:  Producing a book that will compile all the interactive exercises I use in my style of teaching for those academics who seek to go beyond lecturing in their classes.

     

    7)      New University:  Founding member of an organization that will establish a new university in Canada, one which seeks to return to the foundational aspects of places of post-secondary education but also incorporating new foundations of ecological and social justice principles.   

     

    8)      Freelance writer for local, national and international publications

     

    9)   Editorial Advisory Group:  Between the Lines Publishers, Toronto
