Dawn has an extensive background in technology innovation and development. She is T-shaped with a depth of experience in both business and technology. With a PhD in computer science in her background, her range of expertise crosses the boundaries of information technology, business models, strategy, marketing and sales, knowledge management, and benchmarking for performance management.

She often leverages her rich and diverse interdisciplinary background to devise visionary scenarios and technology prototypes, enrich her and her students’ R&D, and to create innovative new courses, standards, and now the new Master of Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation program at Saint Mary’s University. She is internationally recognized for her work in online privacy, innovation, and e-commerce.

Dawn is the first female to achieve the position of Full Professor in Computing and Information Systems at the Sobey School of Business. She has held an adjunct professor position at the Faculty of Computer Science at Dalhousie University since 1998. She currently sits on the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) Board of Directors, and the Saint Mary’s Board of Governors. She convened and co-Chairs the OASIS Privacy by Design for Software Engineers Technical Committee. In 2013, she assumed an additional role of Acting Director of the Sobey School’s Master of Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MTEI) degree program to direct the MTEI’s program’s launch and sustainability activities.
